Under Stair Storage using Heavy duty slides

Client: Tony Hickman

Location: UK

Application: Under-stair storage

Brief: Dads: The under-sung heroes of home DIY, have just found a new champion. Meet Tony whose recently married daughter moved into their new home before Christmas and with a young family on its way needed extra storage space for their house. With the removal of an old boiler, space was made under the stairs and Tony quickly set to work building a series of storage drawers, that required Chambrelan’s heavy duty slides.

“I wanted to utilise the total depth of the cupboard,” said Tony, “but realising that it was 36 inches deep that any item stored at the rear of any potential shelving would be inaccessible due to any items placed in front of them, so the only solution was to make the drawer system reach out far enough to allow access to items and that’s when we found Chambrelan.”

Solution: The R53 is a lean and incredibly strong two-beamed telescopic slide. Zinc plated for extra protection these space conscious slides are capable of carrying 160kg per pair at 600mm and employ a run of stainless steel ball bearings that offer a smoother handling operation, despite the load. This is a medium duty slide, that requires a durable telescopic slide that will not bend or twist with over use and therefore is an ideal option for draw systems and stowage applications.

Feedback: “The Chambrelan team were a great help in understanding what I was trying to do and provided me with the exact slide I required. Thank you very much.” Tony Hickman.

Reviewing the E1708 Stainless Steel Telescopic Slide

E1708 Stainless steel slide

Superb Strength

Perhaps the most enquired about slide at this years DSEI show was the E1708 stainless steel heavy duty slide. The E1708 is a three sectioned I beam slide, that allows the two opposing beams to work in both directions. The I-Beam designed heavy duty slide allows for greater load capacity and extension, without an increase of the space envelope. This is essential on vehicle builds where space is a premium and load capacity is a must.

In this respect the E1708 can carry massive loads (530kg per pair at a 1000mm closed length). By using 316 grade stainless steel this slide is totally resilient to salt water corrosion and high temperatures, making it ideal for customers in the defence, naval, pharmaceutical and food processing industries.

The E1700 heavy duty slide, the zinc plated carbon steel version of the E1708, has also seen good service in vehicle conversions, especially DIY Camper conversions. Many camper conversions employ our slides for extendable pods, designed at doubling the interior living space of the vehicle.

We have a range of heavy duty slides, everything from light duty aluminium slides ideal for precision movements in electrical applications all the way through to extreme heavy duty slides, built to carry massive loads and even when we don’t have the heavy duty slide for you, we can prototype our current range to fit your application.  In addition Chambrelan are constantly updating and reviewing their manufacturing techniques, improving delivery and quality of our heavy duty slides and linear rail motion systems wherever we can.

Coniston Launch Uses Chambrelan

Location:  Cumbria

Application: Launch doors and hatch application uses heavy duty slides

Brief:   As the third largest lake in the Lake District Coniston water stretches five miles long and half a mile wide.  Its ribbon shape being created by glaciation. This beautiful lake is said to be the inspiration for Swallows and Amazons and as such has been an attractive location for tourists and walkers.

Coniston was also the scene for the many attempts to break the world water speed record and was the place where Donald Campbell died when he lost control of his Bluebird K7 hydroplane whilst trying to exceed his previous top speed of 300mph.

Coniston launch was founded in 1992 to run a service between Coniston and Brantwood, but as more and more tourists began using the service the business realized it had to grow and subsequently the company bought a new launch called Campbell.

Solution: As the new launch was being refurbished, the team realized that the door slides and hatch slide needed to be replaced and although the slides must have been there for over thirty years there was concern that the same Chambrelan slides would not be available. Thankfully after a quick search, Coniston Launch found us and we were able to replace their old slides, with new R71’s at 1750mm closed length and partial extension.

As a company with over 50 years worth of experience manufacturing heavy duty slides our range of stainless steel products are ideal for marine applications.  Zinc plate protected these slides have been used on submarines, cruise ships, private boats and small launches.  They are durable, strong, easy to fit and easy to maintain and designed to take the weather.

Natra Uses Steel Telescopic Slides From Chambrelan

Clients:  Natra

Location:  Belgium

Applications:  Food-line application

steel telescopic slides

Food safety heavy duty slides

Brief:  Natra is multinational Spanish company specialising in the confection of cocoa based products, like chocolate tablets, spreads and drinks.  With manufacturing facilities in Spain, Holland, Belgium, Denmark Germany and the UK Natra is the market leader in its field with truly global reach.

In this instance one of their manufacturing plants in Belgium, which processes the chocolate before packing and sending them to market, was having problems at the end of the cycle.  For as packs of chocolate spread was stacked for delivery many were being dropped as in transportation from the food line to the delivery area.  This meant that the stacking machine had to be cleaned frequently and therefore would be regularly out of operation.

Natra’s engineers decided the best course of action would be to design and build a ‘Recovery Tray’, which would catch the falling jars and thereby prevent them smashing.  The problem was the packs of jars, weighing 12kg each, were being dropped from a height of 1.8m and Natra knew they had to choose an incredibly strong product that would not only meet food safety standards, but would also be durable enough to take the punishing blows.

Solution.    Made from reinforced steel the E1902 is a three section I-beam telescopic slide made of zinc plated steel and capable of delivering incredible extension without compromising on its load carrying capacity.  At 1800mm Natra’s E1902 is capable of carrying 455kg per pair in the major axis and being incredibly corrosive resistant.  This is a great performer and being that its made from reinforced steel is a fantastic steel telescopic slide aimed to deliver heavy loads during its long working life.
