RA414 Medium Duty Telescopic Slide

The RA414 medium duty slide is a four beam nested slide made of cold rolled steel construction and is a medium duty over extending telescopic slide. Available in a range of closed lengths from 250mm through to 800mm The RA414 medium duty slide is zinc plated for extra corrosion protection.

As a medium duty telescopic slide the RA414 has a compact space envelope, making it suitable for a variety of applications including vehicle stowage systems, industrial storage, large drawer systems for domestic applications, especially where an over extending slide is required and for this reason it is favoured by many materials handling applications and is first choice for process and automation control equipment.

Spitfire Using D500 aluminium slide

Client: Anthony Hitchcock

Location: Ibiza

Application: Model Spitfire

When professional prop and model maker came to us for a slide for a spitfire canopy, we knew it was going to be a good project. Having started model making and design for years and having worked for customers like Bristol Zoo, the Museum of London and the Discovery Channel to name a few, Tony was asked to build a replica spitfire for children’s garden in Ibiza. Some model makers have all the luck!

Chocs Away

The spitfire is 5 metres long, with a 5.5m wingspan and due to its size the build had to be moved from Tony’s design studio, to his Dad’s garage. “It was a bit like making an enormous Airfix,” says Tony, “but on a much larger scale.”

The heavy duty drawer slide best suited for a spitfire cockpit was two D500, a three beam aluminium slide that delivers 77kg per pair at 350mm extension. Made from aluminium the D500 is a light duty slide with a silent and smoother operation, best suited for medium loads that require manual operation, such as boat covers, sliding guards, key board trays and of course, spitfire cockpits.

“It also flies,” adds Tony, “during our second installation a storm hit the island I remember watching in a mixture of horror and pride as all our hard work suddenly lifted off the ground, flew over a 2.5 metre wall before covering 50 metres. Thankfully it landed pretty well and we were able to fix the few scratches; but secretly we were feeling pretty pleased with ourselves.

Taking Control

“If I ever need any heavy duty slides again,” he added, “you will of course be my first choice!” Anthony Hitchcock

Chambrelan - RA31

Chambrelan – RA31

One of the key advantages offered by Chambrelan, is our ability to produce unusual slides in low volumes.  This is due to our production methods being based on machining and drawing processes rather than rolling and press work, which is more suitable for high volume production.  This results in slides, such as our RA31model, being available from stock in closed lengths as short as 150mm with no minimum order quantity other than a £50 minimum order charge.  To find the same slide from one of our competitors, one would be subjected to minimum order volumes of 250-500 pairs, which can make ordering a specialised product like this untenable.

The RA31 has impressive load carrying potential for it’s size and is more often than not used, in electronic equipment and other electro-mechanical applications.

Chambrelan are designers, manufacturers and suppliers of heavy duty slides across Europe, US, South Africa and Australia.  We have been around for over 70 years and in that time we have had the pleasure of working with some of the most prestigious and rewarding projects, meaning we have the experience and know-how to be able to advise and support your application enquiry.

Our heavy duty slides and linear rail motion systems have been made from the finest materials, using the latest manufacturing techniques which means our range of heavy duty slides and linear rail motion systems are second to none.  Whether it’s aluminium, steel or stainless steel, our range of heavy duty slides and linear rail motion systems have been precision made, capable of carrying a range of loads from light duty to heavy duty weight.  For more specialised products please don’t hesitate to contact, we can prototype products to order.
